The bank was processing 5M+ OTP messages per month via a shared-route aggregator. Average OTP delivery latency exceeded 850ms, causing authentication timeouts in their mobile banking app and increasing customer support calls. Their existing provider could not guarantee Tier-1 direct binds for the UAE, and DLR receipts were SMSC-level only — making it impossible to confirm handset delivery for audit purposes.
The Solution
SBS TELECOM migrated the bank to dedicated SMPP TRX binds over direct Tier-1 interconnects with Etisalat (e&) and du in the UAE. A parallel SMPP connection was maintained as a failover path. DLR webhooks were configured to deliver handset-level receipts in real time. The migration was completed over a single weekend with no downtime — both providers were live simultaneously during the cutover window.
